    12:00:  Advertising session

  • Market research overview Coda Ventures

Did you know 6.6 million NC adults read our products every month?  That’s 8 out of 10 adults!  How about the fact that 82% of North Carolinians say newspaper advertising is important?  Or that when it comes time to make a purchase 56% turn to newspapers to help make that decision?

Coda Ventures will present the findings of their recent study of North Carolina's media habits that was sponsored by the North Carolina Press Association.  The presentation will focus on the importance of newspapers across North Carolina in general and specific to select advertising categories.  Coda will also present examples of sales sheets for both daily and weekly community newspapers that will illustrate how the data can be used to improve the effectiveness of your print and digital sales efforts.

See how the numbers look for two of our members in their local market.  We’ll  show how the data can be used in sales kits and presentations.

If you haven’t completed a market survey recently this session is for you.

This session will be live via zoom.

1:00:   Editorial Session

  • Access to covid data -  Amanda Martin and Mike Tadych

Gaining access to covid data to report on issues important to your readers has not been easy.   We have some tips and best practices on how you can get that data.

Please join Amanda and Mike as they discuss not only gaining access to Covid data but updates on access issues (and court cases) from around the state.

This session will be live via zoom.

2:00 : Editorial session

  • How to use data to report about public health spending

You may have seen this recent story published in the N&O last week, please give it a read as it showcases the work being done by Ryan Thornburg, his students and local publishers: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article248029345.html

Join Ryan Thornburg, Thad Ogburn and Rachel Crumpler for a discussion about how they acquired and analyzed the data for this story. You’ll also learn how you can localize this important statewide story and understand the impact in your community. And as a bonus, you’ll hear about an opportunity to apply to a free data reporting workshop led by Melanie SIll and Ryan Thornburg the week of March 8. (But wait there’s more:  Attendees will receive additional free resources after completing  the session.)

This session will be live via zoom.

3:00:   Advertising session

  • Digital revenue opportunity for NCPA members

NCPS and Blue Orchid have created a private exchange that allows us to funnel ad buys to you. We created a program/script that ensures we are receiving campaigns before they hit the open exchange which allows us to prioritize our partners inventory. That all means incremental digital sales for you without any sales effort and at a higher rate.

Stop giving away unsold inventory and wasting page views.  We’ve got a passive source of revenue for publishers who are looking to not only fill the gaps outside of their direct-sold campaigns but also drive up bid tension within their programmatic stack. Attend this session and see how easy it is to make digital revenue with NCPS.

This session will be live via zoom.

4:00: General membership meeting

  • Welcome from NCPA president Paul Mauney
  •  NCPA update Phil Lucey
  • Public Notice Website - highlights to recent changes made to www.ncnotices.com
  • Market Research Study - Overview of statewide study
  • Legislative overview John Bussian

This event will be live via zoom.

4:30: NCPA annual awards ceremony

Shannon Vickery of PBS NC emcees a virtual celebration of NCPA award winners.  A link will be made available at 4:30 and viewable by division.   The presentation will be available to view on demand.
