Investigative Reporter

The NC Justice Center, the state’s leading research and advocacy organization dedicated to transforming North Carolina’s prosperity into opportunity for all is seeking a reporter to join the staff of its media project, NC Policy Watch.

The Investigative Reporter is responsible for pitching and producing compelling, in-depth and investigative stories on issues often ignored by the mainstream media, particularly ones that expose malfeasance committed by powerful institutions and individuals and that address the needs of low-income communities including coverage on issues of race and poverty. The position will report directly to the Director of NC Policy Watch and work closely with the NC Policy Watch team.

EXPERIENCE

Candidates should have a BA in Journalism or related field. In addition, candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience reporting for a media outlet or public policy nonprofit. Qualified candidates will have experience reporting on NC state policy issues, conducting investigations and assessing public records and data. Experience with new media technology and social media platforms is required. The position requires superior writing skills, the ability to work against deadlines and experience working in collaboration with diverse organizations and communities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to social justice, and enjoy contributing to the organization’s mission by supporting the work of others.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
